To keep your mouth from developing periodontal disease, you should brush twice per day and floss once daily. Keeping your teeth and gums healthy is our priority at Montgomery County Periodontal Associates, so we’ve assembled this information on how you can steer clear of periodontal disease.
Periodontal disease is a dental disorder caused by uncontrolled bacteria growth on teeth and gums. An early symptom of gum disease is red, bloody and/or swollen gums, but left untreated, gum disease can progress to a more severe form that causes tooth and bone loss. Practicing awesome dental hygiene is the greatest way to treat milder types of periodontal disease, but serious forms of gum disease necessitate professional procedures.
To thwart the onset of gum disease, there are multiple things you can do. Brushing your chompers twice daily and flossing your teeth at least once per day top our list, and you can also think about using an oral cavity wash to aid you as you remove the plaque on and between your chompers and gums. As always, it’s also important to visit our office at least once every six months for professional cleaning; hardened plaque (defined as tartar) will need to be removed by professional hygienists. And don’t smoke or chew tobacco if you want to avert gum disease.
